CMMC, SOC 2, and HIPAA readiness
Checked October 27, 2026 by Accred Consulting
Accred Assess records your team’s decisions on implementation controls once and maps them to the frameworks you choose, such as CMMC Level 1 and 2, SOC 2, and HIPAA, so you can see met requirements and gaps before an assessor does. It is advisory readiness: it does not certify you, replace a C3PAO assessment or a CPA’s SOC 2 examination, or make a legal HIPAA determination.
Assess shows readiness against your recorded decisions. Certification, attestation, and legal compliance come only from the assessor, auditor, or regulator for each framework.
What each framework asks for
| Framework | What it covers | Who decides |
|---|---|---|
| CMMC Level 1 | The 15 basic safeguarding requirements for Federal Contract Information | Annual self-assessment and affirmation, submitted in SPRS |
| CMMC Level 2 | The security requirements of NIST SP 800-171 for Controlled Unclassified Information | Self-assessment every three years, or a certification assessment by an authorized C3PAO, plus annual affirmation |
| SOC 2 | Controls relevant to security, availability, processing integrity, confidentiality, or privacy | A CPA firm’s examination report; it is not a certification |
| HIPAA Security Rule | Confidentiality, integrity, and availability of electronic protected health information | Covered entities and business associates; enforced by HHS |
How Accred Assess helps
- Choose up to six frameworks: SOC 2, ISO 27001, NIST CSF 2.0, CMMC Level 1 and 2, FedRAMP Moderate, HIPAA, PCI DSS 4.0.1, CIS Microsoft 365 Foundations Benchmark v7.0.0, CIS Controls v8.1, GDPR, or the NIST AI RMF.
- Each requirement maps to your control decisions and shows met, partially met, gap, not assessed, or not applicable. CMMC Level 2 lists all 110 NIST SP 800-171 practices.
- Requirements link across frameworks, so one decision or accepted evidence file counts toward every overlapping requirement.
- Export a gap report per framework. The expanded assessment adds an evidence pack with accepted files, hashes, decisions, and history.
- Grade company-wide security posture across 118 checks and turn findings into a prioritized fix plan.
Pricing
Assess is free to start without an account. The expanded assessment, with all 67 controls, framework alignment, and the full report, is $99 one-time per organization.

Questions
Does Accred Assess make us CMMC or SOC 2 compliant?
No. Assess shows readiness against your recorded decisions. CMMC Level 2 certification comes from an authorized C3PAO, a SOC 2 report comes from a CPA firm, and HIPAA compliance is your organization’s legal obligation.
Is SOC 2 a certification?
No. A SOC 2 report is a CPA firm’s examination of controls relevant to security, availability, processing integrity, confidentiality, or privacy.
How often is CMMC Level 2 assessed?
Every three years, by self-assessment or by an authorized C3PAO depending on the contract, with an affirmation at each assessment and annually after that.
Can one control count toward several frameworks?
Yes, in Accred Assess. Requirements link across frameworks, so one control decision or accepted evidence file counts toward every overlapping requirement.
